Comments: Even if you're not a history buff, this is a great place to see. You get an up close and personal relationship with FDR and feel like you come to understand him. He originally came to this area in hopes of finding a cure for the polio he was struck with in 1921. The warm mineral springs did not produce a cure, but it did bring relief from the pain and was soon made a center for the physical therapy needed for polio victims. The summer house is where he died, while posing for a portrait. That unfinished portrait is on display at the house. Upon his death, the house was closed. Realizing he ran the war from this little house, with one telephone, and a few marines in guard houses but otherwise vulnerable, makes one realize how much the world has changed in such a short time. In addition to the house, be sure to visit the Mineral Springs to see the pools and talk to Suzie. She came to spa as a 2 month old with club feet and she is still there, presenting tours of the spa.
